The object of my affection

The object of my affection is a fabulous American movie released in 1998. It is an American romantic comedy-drama film made in the direction of Nicholas Hytner. Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd played leading roles in this movie.

This movie is about when a girl named Nina (Jennifer Aniston) falls in love with her gay best friend named George (Paul Rudd) while she was pregnant. Obviously, they did not end up together. But this movie is an excellent example of affection showed by both friends.

This movie shows that you can be affectionate towards a person, whether you are in love or not. George did not love Nina, but he was ready to bring up her daughter with her as they were best friends. they had remarkable friendship and affection towards each other, but there was no love romantically. “The object of my affection” is great to watch if you want to know the difference between love and affection.

What does affection mean in love?

Love is a breathtaking emotion in this world. But what does affection mean in love? A person who shows you affection does not mean he is in love with you. But love is incomplete without affection. If a person does not have affection for his/her partner, this means there are intimacy issues. So we can say that affection is a very important factor in love.

People may confuse affection with emotion, but these are different. Emotion is an internal feeling, but affection is something you tend to give or want from someone. Simply we can say that affection is some kind of work, but emotion happens within a person. As I mentioned above, there is a huge significance of affection in love, but why do we need it? Or what does affection mean in love? Let’s have a look:

Sense of security

When you are in love or a romantic relationship, you feel insecure. There is a little fear of losing your partner, and it is normal. But too much fear can bring complications in a relationship. That’s when affection proves helpful; it brings a sense of security. An affectionate partner makes your insecurities run away.

Sense of compatibility

Having a relationship without affection is just like a flower without fragrance; it may look beautiful but does not feel right. When there is affection between two lovers or partners, they have a strong unbreakable bond between them. It also makes you understand whether the person you love or are in a relationship with is compatible with you or not. It brings a sense of harmony in your relationship.

Makes your relationship stronger

When you are in love with someone, initially, you don’t know much about them. But when affection comes with love, you care a lot about the person. You try to understand what they like and what they don’t. You try to find out what makes your partner feel happy or sad. So you try to do whatever they want and fulfill their needs. It makes your relationship stronger and stronger.

Sense of Satisfaction

When there is no affection in a relationship, both partners will feel unsatisfied. Affection is all about preferring your partner’s happiness above yours and wanting to show them love and attention. When there is no affection, you may only think about what you want in a relationship and don’t think about your partner. It will make them feel unsatisfied and you too. But if you two care for each other, you can take your love to the next level and showing affection helps this.

How to show affection

Showing affection is very important to your partner, friend, or your parents. It makes them feel that they are not alone, and you are there whenever they need it. Showing affection to someone does not only make them feel good, but you will also feel happy. Some people can do it naturally, but it is not easy for everyone. Others may need a little help. So if you are wondering How to show affection to someone, here are some tips for you:

Showing affection to your special one

Showing affection becomes necessary when you are in a romantic relationship. It makes your partner feel secure in the relationship. So it would be better to show her/his affection verbally. If they had a stressful day, giving them a head massage can be a good day. Sit by their side and watch movies together and cuddle and caress your partner. An excellent way to show your partner affection is by giving gifts. It would be better to provide them with hand made gift or a card. Cook their favorite dish, and it will make them feel lovely and appreciated.

Try to spend quality and meaningful time together. Plan romantic dates on the weekend when you two are free. Communication is very important, so talk to them about their day show that you care for them. Make sure to be a good listener.

Showing affection to your family members

Families are different from each other; hence they show affection differently. In some families, parents hug their children to show love others just prefer a handshake. When you feel like your kid is having a bad day in school, it would be better to give a side hug and say some affectionate words like “I am there for you, you can share anything with me, you know.” The exchange of hugs from both children and parents periodically is an excellent way to show affection. Helping your parents in regular chores is also a way to show affection to your loved ones.

Showing affection to your friends

If you are wondering How to show affection to your friends, it is very simple. In friendship, there are fewer complications than romantic relationships and family matters. But still, friends to want an act of affection form you. Always be there for them when they need you. When you meet after a long time, give a warm welcome hug and when they leave, share a passionate goodbye hug. Make them realize how lucky you are to have them in your life.

Public display of affection

Public display of affection (P.D.A) is a term used for describing any kind of physical contact between a couple in public. It includes every expression from kissing to hugging and holding hands to touching each other lightly.

Different people have different opinions regarding what is acceptable in public and what is not. The survey showed that it was acceptable for 92% of Britons to hold hands, and 90% had the same opinion about hugging. In addition to this, it also depends on the area you are living in and cultural background. Some people can’t imagine going beyond linking arms or holding hands outside the home. On the other hand, certain couples don’t care about where they are; they just can’t take off their hands from each other.

What does it mean in a relationship?

According to a survey, about 68% approved kissing without tongues involved, and just 15% approved French kissing in public. People who don’t like public display of affection (P.D.A) often think why is there a need to involve everyone when you can enjoy being affectionate privately. It is understandable in the initial days of a relationship when everything seems excited, but a stable P.D.A. may seem like a performance rather than genuine feelings.

If you feel like you should show off your relationship in public, it can be a sign that you are overcompensating and insecure. Simply, in my opinion, PDAs are all about to show off. Either consciously or not, you are projecting an image of your relationship. unfortunately, a more intimate relationship publically means less chemistry inside the home.

Stats also showed that women are less keen on kissing in public than men. In my opinion, holding hands and light hugging is acceptable in public when you are having a moment or celebrating something. Several studies have shown that physical affection has a positive outcome in a romantic relationship. But excess of everything is terrible; if you are doing this too much, you hear people saying, “get a room.”

Affection song

Affection is all about caring and loving each other. There are plenty of affection songs explaining how beautiful it is. But if you don’t get the affection you need or want, you become upset. Here I will share one of my favorite affection songs that explain how important affection is in our lives. This song is by Lisa Stanfield:

Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair
And a big, big love in your heart
So strong
Feel a hand in your hand and a whisper sweet and low

That says I love you

We all know what we want
Affection, it’s a way of life
Direction, all of us know which way we’re going
With our affection
Affection may be big or small but know that
We can have it all with our affection
We know which way to go

Take a walk in the sun with the one you love
And a big, big love in your heart
So strong
And rest a little while, keep on smilin’, smilin’

We all know what we want

Well, you could lay down and die for the one you’re lovin’
There’s a sweet, sweet love in your heart

So strong

When you’re dancin’ on the air like you don’t care
It’s honey on your lips and sweeter to your fingertips
You know what we want

Affection for you quotes

No one is worthy of love and affection than yourself. If you cannot love yourself, you can’t love any other person in the world. As Buddha says it:

“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.”

When you give affection to yourself, it becomes easy to give affection to others. For some people, it is not easy to show affection to others.  Let me share some affection for you” quotes so that you can understand how beautiful this feeling is and how lovely it is to show it. So here are some of my favorite quotes:

“Love is made up of three unconditional properties in equal measure:

  1. Acceptance
  2. Understanding
  3. Appreciation

Remove any one of the three, and the triangle falls apart.

Which, by the way, is something highly inadvisable. Think about it — do you really want to live in a world of only two dimensions? So, for the love of a triangle, please keep love whole.” ― Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration.

“The beauty and mystery of this world only emerge through affection, attention, interest, and compassion . . . open your eyes wide and actually see this world by attending to its colors, details, and irony.” ― Orhan Pamuk, My Name Is Red.

“Love — not dim and blind but so far-seeing that it can glimpse around corners, around bends and twists and illusion; instead of overlooking faults love sees through them to the secret inside.” ― Vera Nazarian, Salt of the Air.

Following affection for quotes explain how important it is showing affection when you are in love:

“Flowers need plenty of water and sunshine to grow. Love, too, needs attention and affection, or else it slowly withers away from neglect. Once love’s gone, it’s as brittle as a dried-out leaf. You pick it up, only to discover that it’s turned to ash beneath your once careful touch, gone on a swift wind forever.” ― Kerri Maniscalco, Hunting Prince Dracula.

“You can neither force nor buy real affection; love speaks its way, and own language regardless of high or low-class subjects.” ― Ehsan Sehgal.

“To follow the way of true affection, for all is much more arduous, compared to that of true love, for one, but following the difficult way, takes humans to understand the creation and meaning of that.” ― Ehsan Sehgal.

“Affection is a sweetness, and it always gives the sweet taste; this is God gifted strength. No one else can change it.” ― Ehsan Sehgal.

“True affection neither die nor can be wiped out from the heart and mind of a lover regardless of distance, culture, believing, language, high or low ranking, and opponents.” ― Ehsan Sehgal.

“Affection is a much profound emotion, which is inexplicable but can be fathomed through our pores. It percolates down our skin slowly.” ― Balroop Singh.

“The affection of parents makes infants feel safe in this dangerous world and gives them boldness in experimentation and in the exploration of their environments.”― Bertrand Russell.
