Introvert vs extrovert

Introvert vs extrovert, introverted personality, extrovert meaning

Almost all of us have a basic idea of Introvert vs extrovert. I was also one of them having a general thought that:

  • An extrovert is someone who is very outgoing.
  • And Introvert is a person who is shy.

But if you read about it a little bit more, you will be able to know that it is far away from reality. These two terms need much more understanding, and then you will be able to know the real meaning.

This article is all about learning the actual meaning of terms introvert vs extrovert and comparison between them. You will learn something deep, unique and helpful in understanding the various behavioural characteristics of different individuals. So let’s get started:

Introvert vs extrovert

introvert vs extrovert

Going back a little bit in the past, you will be able to appreciate that both these terms were actually popularized in the early 20th century by Carl Jung. Unfortunately, we were unable to understand the actual meaning and started thinking that people belong to either of these groups. But according to Carl, these are two really extreme terms, and we belong to somewhere in the middle of these terms. As he says:

“There is no such thing as a pure introvert or extrovert. Such a person would be in the lunatic asylum.” –Carl G. Jung.

There are some theories regarding Introvert vs extrovert and research has shown that genetic makeup plays a strong role. Introversion and extroversion is not just about being shy or outgoing, but it is related to where we get our energy.

Simply it is about how we recharge our brains. On the basis of this:

Introverts are those who tend to recharge their brains by spending time alone. When they have to be around so many people or at the crowded place, they feel drained.

On the other hand, extroverts gain energy from being around people. Their feel drained when they have to spend time alone. They feel good when they are social.

Introverted personality

A person who is reserved, quiet and thoughtful is mostly thought of having an introverted personality. They avoid social engagement as it can drain their energy.  It is a basic personality style opposite to extroversion. It does not mean that they have a fear of people or are shy, but they like it to be in calm places with one on one interaction. Introverted personality is all about calmness and solitude.

Introvert synonym

There are plenty of other words that can be used in place of Introvert having a similar meaning. Here are some of the common introvert synonyms:

  • shy, unsociable, withdrawn, reticent, bashful, retiring, quiet, reserved, timid, timorous, meek, diffident
  • introspective, self-interested, introvert, self-contained, self-absorbed, inward-looking
  • some other introvert synonyms are, contemplative, pensive, reflective, meditative, thoughtful, ruminative

Shy synonym

The introvert is a shy synonym based on what most people think about it these days. You can use it in place of Introvert but do not confuse the actual meaning.

How to pronounce Introvert

If you wonder how to pronounce Introvert, you see you visit different websites to know how you can speak it in a British accent. You can watch videos on YouTube to learn its pronunciation. I have also attached a link to a website, listening to the word can prove really helpful in accurately pronouncing any word.

Introvert characteristics

Introvert characteristics are part of who you are making your personality complete. There is nothing wrong with being an introvert; it does not mean you are bore or egoistic as most people think of you like this. So you need to accept yourself and be it. Here are some Introvert characteristics:

Male introvert characteristics

Here’s the way to tell in case you are an introvert or not along with male introvert characteristics:

In contrast with people who love to be around others and think thoroughly before they speak, you need to spend time alone to revive, and you think before you act.

Neither is better as compared to others nor perfect. It is not like two different categories, but more of a percentage like a person is 60% or 79% introvert.

Here are some male introvert characteristics:

  • Thinking prior to talking
  • Needing to see all sides of something prior to acting
  • Trying introspection for oneself.
  • Seeing life and others in a more delicate, touchy way
  • Observing life intensely

Qualities of introvert people are delightful, similarly the qualities of an extrovert. We’re all extraordinary, and we, as a whole, add wealth to the world when we appreciate acting naturally.

Introvert men specifically bring an extraordinary feeling of calm, care, and assuredness that others don’t necessarily understand at times.

But the question is, do women like this calmness and shyness attractive?

I’d prefer to make a note here on the distinction among introversion and shyness. Shyness is embarrassment or bashfulness that anyone can experience depending on the ongoing situation. Introversion, on the other hand, is different from seeing the world from an anxious state.

An introvert and a shy person is somebody who will, in general, feel somewhat shy (bashful), and who additionally has a calmer attitude (thoughtful). Shyness isn’t “awful” fundamentally, but then, as we become more agreeable into our own skin, that will, in general, scatter for a more quiet and tough disposition.

Female introvert characteristics

There is not as such main difference between male or female introvert characteristics both have the same qualities. Both are good listeners, think before speak and charge their energy from solitude.

Western culture will, in general, be more tolerating of introvert men than their female partners. How many people have heard someone say, with a laugh, “father is pretty calm; however, my mother will talk, talk and talk”? Or then again, maybe they heartily relate how grandpa used to hang out on the rooftop with a book at whatever point visitors came over. Female introvert characteristics are not different, but the main difference is how society perceives them.

Would you be able to envision how individuals may respond on the off chance that it was grandmother on the rooftop? They would likely think she was insane, discouraged, or amazingly inconsiderate. Regardless, I question they would discover her activities charming.

For what reason is it OK for grandpa to cherish his isolation, yet bad for grandma?

Introverted personality and relationships

introverted personality and relationships

You may think that opposites attract so extrovert and introverts can be in a relationship. Well, it is not difficult to be in a relationship with an introvert when you actually are an extrovert if you try to learn about their personality and ensure to fulfil some extra needs of an introvert partner. It may come with some challenges, but it can be very rewarding also. Here are some of the things you need to care of if you want to know about introverted personality and relationships:

  • They want to spend some time alone, so accept that and give them space.
  • It is not easy for them to enjoy big events; they don’t like being at crowded places all the time so you need to plan any social event in advance so that they can feel comfortable and be prepared.
  • Quality time is very important for them, so try to provide them with what they want; they cherish calm nights, long walks and deep talks with their partner.
  • They may sometimes feel bad about themselves because of societal pressure at that time stand by them and support them.

Introvert test

Now you have a basic concept of Introvert vs extrovert; you understand what is introvert meaning, you also have a brief idea about their qualities, but just reading about them is not enough to know whether you or any other person is an introvert or not. Sometimes you just get confused about yourself. The best you can do to rule out this confusion is by taking an online introvert quiz.

Introvert quiz

There are several Introvert tests available online based on some common questions. These online tests consist of some introvert quizzes, and based on your answer; they will evaluate whether you are an introvert or an extrovert. An introvert quiz will consist of questions like these:

  • Do you feel drained in crowded places?
  • Do you find difficulty in communicating with strangers?
  • Do you find that yelling or arguments make you feel uncomfortable?
  • Do you have just one or two friends and a limited social circle?
  • Do you like to attend parties or want to spend time alone?

There are many types of Introvert tests, and you can easily find these on the internet. So if you think that you or one of your friends has Introvert qualities, make sure to figure it out so that you can enjoy the perks of being an introvert or extrovert.

Introvert opposite

You have learned about introverts, but what is the introvert opposite?

The introvert opposite is extrovert. Being Introvert is being less social; on the other hand, extroverts love to be social. They are the life of the party and feel charged when they interact with people. They don’t feel good when they have to be alone on their own. They like spending time with a huge group of friends and family and the people they love. It is easy for them to build new relationships and friendships as compared to introverts.

Extrovert meaning

In the dictionary, the extrovert meaning is “a person who is outgoing and socially confident.”

Male and Female extrovert characteristics

As I have mentioned above, how it is to be like an extrovert. Let’s dig a little deeper to better understand male and female extrovert characteristics:

They love being social.

People having more extrovert qualities are centre of attention most of the time, and they cherish it. They try to join any kind of social gathering. They are really not afraid to talk to new people. They do not try to avoid new and unfamiliar situation worrying about messing up.

They do not like being alone.

We all need some time alone to charge our self. But in the case of extroverts’ this happens rarely. They try to find ways to get out of their homes and offices to enjoy life and meeting new people. It is kind of their therapy. They need me time but not too much as it can drain their happiness and energy.

Have a huge group of friends

They are social and like making new friends. They are comfortable talking to strangers, that is the reason they can make new friends easily, and as a result, they have a huge group of friends. Having a large social circle allows them to meet even more new people and pursue different activities and interests.

They can talk about their problem.

It is not easy for introverts to be open about themselves, but it is easy for extroverts. Introverts try to analyze and find the solution for their problems on their own, and sometimes they are stuck there. But extroverts do not do this they can talk comfortably about their issues and are willing to make clear preferences. They are willing to express themselves.

They are not afraid to take risks.

Another male and female extrovert characteristic is that sometimes you will see them engaging in risky behaviours. Research has shown that when an extrovert takes a risk and succeeds, he gets rewarded with dopamine. They always try to take the risk as they feel energized and excited when they do so. But again it is not just a category but is a spectrum, and people lay at different levels of this spectrum.

Introvert meme

We are living in the modern world where most of us love spending time on internet reading memes. These memes are relatable and funny and make us laugh. There are plenty of extrovert and introvert memes on different social media platforms that you will find funny and relatable. Let me share some of my most favourite introvert memes:

This one is my most favourite.

Introvert quotes

Both introverts and extroverts sometimes feel bad about themselves because of the judgments their characteristics pass on to them, we all need to understand that we are different from each other and these differences make us who we are, so we need to accept our own selves and others as well. If you are feeling drained here are some introvert quotes that will make you feel better about yourself.

“Because introverts are typically good listeners and, at least, have the appearance of calmness, we are attractive to emotionally needy people. Introverts gratified that other people are initiating with them, can easily get caught in these exhausting and unsatisfying relationships.” ― Adam S. McHugh.

“In an extroverted society, the difference between an introvert and an extrovert is that an introvert is often unconsciously deemed guilty until proven innocent.” ― Criss Jami, Venus in Arms.

“I was just confused about why I was feeling overwhelmed all the time and trying to adjust to having people work for me. Surprisingly, I think if you’re known on the Internet, you’re probably an introvert.” ~ Felicia Day

“Introverts treasure the close relationships they have stretched so much to make.” ― Adam S. McHugh, Introverts in the Church: Finding Our Place in an Extroverted Culture.

“Now that you’re an adult, you might still feel a pang of guilt when you decline a dinner invitation in favour of a good book. Or maybe you like to eat alone in restaurants and could do without the pitying looks from fellow diners. Or you’re told that you’re “in your head too much”, a phrase that’s often deployed against the quiet and cerebral. Or maybe there’s another word for such people: thinkers.” ― Susan Cain.

“There are such a lot of things that have no place in summer and autumn and spring. Everything that’s a little shy and a little rum. Some kinds of night animals and people that don’t fit in with others and that nobody really believes in. They keep out of the way all the year. And then when everything’s quiet and white and the nights are long, and most people are asleep—then they appear.” ― Tove Jansson, Moominland Midwinter.

“Introverts live in two worlds: We visit the world of people, but solitude and the inner world will always be our home.” ― Jenn Granneman, The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World.

“The same person who would never raise his hand in a lecture hall of two hundred people might blog to two thousand, or two million, without thinking twice. The same person who finds it difficult to introduce himself to strangers might establish a presence online and then extend these relationships into the real world.” ― Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.

“Introverts are offered keys to private gardens full of riches. To possess such a key is to tumble like Alice down her rabbit hole. She didn’t choose to go to Wonderland – but she made of it an adventure that was fresh and fantastic and very much her own.” ― Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.

“Sometimes, I wonder if being an introvert is a curse. On the one hand, you find solace in your own company and never feel sad about being alone. And on the other hand, you are afraid to even express your feeling to the one you love until there is nothing but regret is left.” ― Crestless Wave.

“You’re one of those who has to tune the world out and focus on one thing at a time. We have a word for that down here, women like you. Insiwa. Inside one. It means you live inside your head and to step out of it hurts like a caning.” ― Rivers Solomon, An Unkindness of Ghosts.

“There are things I would like to say without revealing so much about my feelings. I get overwhelmed with my emotions that sometimes,  instead of telling you how much I love you, I end up sending you an “apple” emoji. Sorry.” ― Miss Rainbow Moonfire

“Extroversion is an enormously appealing personality style, but we’ve turned it into an oppressive standard to which most of us feel we must conform. Introversion is now a second-class personality trait, somewhere between a disappointment and pathology.” ― Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.

Here are some of my most favourite introvert quotes explaining the whole concept and making you feel good about yourself:

“Introversion is not a mental illness. It is normal to go to a restaurant alone. It is normal to go to the cinema alone. It is normal to have two trusted friends than a huge social group. It is normal to find happiness in being alone.” ― Mitta Xinindlu.

“I’m an introvert.
If your party isn’t better
than the one in my head,
I’m not interested.” ― John Mark Green

“[Introverts] are also more flexible in a sense, in that sometimes they must do what extraverts do all the time, meet strangers and go to parties. But some extraverted people can avoid being introverted, turning inward, for years at a time.” ― Elaine N. Aron, The Highly Sensitive Person: How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You

“Don’t think of introversion as something that needs to be cured…Spend your free time the way you like, not the way you think you’re supposed to.”~ Susan Cain

“But the most important thing to know about being an introvert is that there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re not broken because you’re quiet. It’s okay to stay home on a Friday night instead of going to a party. Being an introvert is a perfectly normal ‘thing’ to be.” ― Jenn Granneman, The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World

“The quiet ones, the introverts, are uniquely gifted. We have tremendous patience and empathy. We don’t need to say much, yet we’re able to build deep connections and rapport with those around us. The act of displaying Quiet Confidence is much easier to cultivate than we think. It’s built-in, a bundled accessory, we simply have to activate it!” ― Joel Annesley, Quiet Confidence: Breaking Up with Shyness

“Trying to copy extroverts is a recipe for failure. To achieve success, introverts must embrace their own unique and powerful abilities.” ― Matthew Pollard, The Introvert’s Edge: How the Quiet and Shy Can Outsell Anyone

“As an introvert, you crave intimate moments and deep connections–and those usually aren’t found in a crowd.” ― Jenn Granneman, The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World

“All my life, all I’d ever heard was: Emily’s so shy, Emily’s so quiet, Emily’s so clever. Thinking back on it now, I don’t know if I was ever any of those things, or if I just became shy and quiet and clever because everyone said I was.” ― Tanya Byrne, Heart-Shaped Bruise

It is totally okay to be alone or to be around people whatever you like. But do not do anything just to please others or thinking about what will people think about me:

“There is a tremendous difference between alone and lonely. You could be lonely in a group of people. I like being alone. I like eating by myself. I go home at night and just watch a movie or hang out with my dog. I have to exert myself and really say, oh God, I’ve got to see my friends because I’m too content by myself.” ~ Drew Barrymore

“In order to be open to creativity, one must have the capacity for constructive use of solitude. One must overcome the fear of being alone.” ~ Rollo May

“A good rule of thumb is that any environment that consistently leaves you feeling bad about who you are in the wrong environment.” ~ Laurie Helgoe

“When you’re an introvert like me, and you’ve been lonely for a while, and then you find someone who understands you, you become really attached to them. It’s a real release.” Lana Del Rey

“Your solitude will be a support and a home for you, even in the midst of very unfamiliar circumstances, and from it, you will find all your paths.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

“Introvert conversations are like jazz. Each player gets to solo for a nice stretch before the other player comes in and does his solo.” ~ Laurie Helgoe

Conclusion

Here is a quote explaining what I actually wanted to say in this article about Introvert vs extrovert:

“Stay true to your own nature. If you like to do things in a slow and steady way, don’t let others make you feel as if you have to race. If you enjoy depth, don’t force yourself to seek breadth.” ~ Susan Cain

No matter what others think, you need to know yourself better irrespective of the standards society has set for people. Being Introvert or an extrovert does not mean you are restricted to one category and you can’t behave like the other if you want. These are two extreme terms, and people lie somewhere in between these two terms, some have more tendencies toward extroversions, and some have more towards introversion. It is fine; do not think of yourself lesser. Extroverted or introverted personality and relationships can be challenging but rewarding.

I hope the confusion regarding Introvert vs extrovert has been cleared. I have tried my best to deliver informational content, read it thorough and perhaps take a test to establish which one you are or have a free consultation with one of our life coaches today call+443333443853.
