BPD SELF DESTRUCTION

BPD SELF DESTRUCTION

Bpd Self Destruction

BPD Self Destruction is an acronym for Borderline Personality Disorder. It is a psychological disorder that is triggered by anxiety or fear of abandonment. Another factor which contributes to BPD Self Destruction is the fear of being alone.  It is a mental illness that may make a person incapable of having a stable relationship.

Most People who suffer from BPD Self Destruction have a history of a troubled upbringing. Either from Parental abandonment or Violent Parental upbringing. This triggers their need to cling, to feel loved and to be wanted.

The Slightest indication that they may Lose  someone that they have clinged, triggers traumatic memories and hence, fear of abandonment. People with Borderline Personality disorder have a tendency to deviate from reality, making up perceptions about situations. They develop and harbour a lot of anger within themselves causing rifts in their relationships.

BPD Self Destruction usually occurs when a person suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder is afraid they’ll lose someone. Oftentimes they compete for affection, acceptance, or to be noticed.

Trust can be a challenge for them in intimate relationships. Because of past experiences or family background, they conclude that past patterns will definitely reoccur, living in constant fear of rejection and Abandonment.

When it comes to relationships, an average person suffering from BPD self destruction has an already made up prototype of his expectations of a proper relationship in his head. If things go contrary to what he has made up in his head, the disappointment causes an outrage. They hold the other party responsible for the disappointment they feel.

Self-harm is considered a pervasive problem in several psychopathologies, and especially in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Self-harming behaviors can be enacted for many purposes. for example to regulate emotions and to reduce dissociation.

BPD patients often report dissociative episodes, which may be related to an altered body awareness, and in particular to an altered awareness of the sense of agency. The sense of agency draws in part upon perceptions of being in control of our bodies and our physical movements, of being able to act upon environments.

In this article, we aim to show you how dissociative experiences of BPD patients may be linked to an altered sense of agency and whether self-injurious actions may, through strong sensorial stimulation,

constitute a coping strategy for the reduction of the distress associated with these dissociative experiences. BPD patients who engage in self-harming Behaviours, do so as a way of coping with losses.

SELF DESTRUCTION

Self destruction

Self Destruction is an act of causing pain and harm to oneself. Any behaviour that is intentionally indulged by a person to inflict pain on himself is regarded as self Destruction. It may be a coping mechanism for a person, and also a habit.

It is associated with a mental illness that is borne out of the need for attention or an attempt to cope with hurt.

Childhood trauma plays a major role in BDP self Destruction. The lack of feeling secure, fear of being misunderstood or rejection in itself can also be a reason for someone to self-destruct . In situations where self Destruction is not intentional, there’s usually a strong urge that cannot be contained to cause bodily harm to oneself.

Reasons for self Destruction can be due to mental health or an attempt to make hurt disappear. People cut themselves after the loss of a dear one, breakup from intimate partners or even loss of finances .

Self Destruction is the appearance of a dark side of humans emerging from low esteem and self hatred. The lack of confidence and anger towards a scenario in life may push people to engage in self Destructive behaviour as a way of comforting themselves.

Anybody, regardless of age and gender can experience BPD self Destruction. It can be physical or Emotional and usually begins with self Destructive thoughts. It is a manifestation of recurrent wishes for death or bodily harm. There are some people who cut themselves but do not necessarily want to die.

What Causes Self Destruction?

What causes self destruction

What causes self destruction? Many people who engage in self Destructive behaviours are aware of the negative effects that come with it and only choose to stop themselves from the act.

  • Pleasure

Most Self Destructive behaviours start off as pleasurable acts. For instance, drinking and smoking to cool off. Until it gets out of control and it gets difficult to control the urge.

Continuous indulgence in drinking and smoking trains their body to demand more for sustainability. It gets to an extent where their body systems see drinking and smoking as the new normal.

  • Trauma

Unaddressed Trauma can cause a person to engage in self Destructive behaviour. Negative Childhood memories can trigger the need to adopt unhealthy lifestyles as a means of dealing with such trauma.

These traumatic experiences might be experiences they choose not to share with anyone for fear of being judged or misunderstood.

Some people turn to Self Destructive Behaviours as a way of mourning. Coping after the loss of a dear one can be hard. Especially when one is constantly being reminded about them through pictures or items.

The grieving period can be elongated by drinking excessively just for the purpose of receiving comfort. As the grieving process is elongated, a habit evolves. Gradually, such a person finds it difficult to retreat from Self Destructive Behaviours.

  • Rejection

What causes self destruction? Rejection; People with Borderline Personality Disorder do not usually handle rejection well. It signals to them that they are not good enough and makes them question their self worth.

This happens in break up scenarios and even with platonic relationships. A person with BPD struggles to differentiate fantasy from reality.

The fear of losing a partner or friend might push a person with BPD to find comfort in Self Destructive Behaviours. It may also be a method of drawing the partner’s attention to the way they feel.

Some persons with BPD will cause bodily harm to themselves just so they try to stop someone from leaving them. Their scope is that if the person feels sorry for them, he won’t leave. These partners are then compelled to stay in these relationships for sympathy sake.

  • Failure

What causes Self Destruction again may be failure. Not meeting up to standards one had once set up for themselves can leave a person feeling defeated. Another instance is where a person constantly fails an academic test or assessment. This leaves the person with a lot of stress.

Parents who mount pressure on their children to follow a particular set of guidelines, achieve a certain targeted academic achievement most often are left with kids who are under pressure.

At this point, they resort to any form of habit that may give them solace. Most often, they turn to self Destructive behaviours like cutting themselves and even overdose of painkillers.

What  Do You Call a Person Who Is Self Destructive?

What do you call a person who is self destructive

What do you call a person who is self destructive? The thesaurus dictionary affiliates the following words with self Destructive: Brazen, disconcerted, no discipline, narcissist, suicidal, irrational, sociopathic, delusional etc.

We may call that person delusional. BPD patients usually do not know how to draw the line between fantasy and reality.

Since they have an already made up ideology of how things should go, they seem not to find the balance when things don’t go exactly the way they planned it. Past trauma makes them see things that are not there and make assumptions.

The fear of the recurrence of an event ignites anger and frustration in them.  Their thoughts are steadily on future outcomes rather than dealing with current issues.

What do we call a person who is self Destructive? We may see them as suicidal.

Most of the time, people who inflict severe pains to themselves do it with the intention of ending it all. The end game is permanently stopping themselves from hurting.

If they keep on engaging in Destructive behaviours, and do not receive a permanent healing, there is a high tendency that such a person might want to end it permanently by committing suicide.

It is advisable to pay attention to the people we care about. Especially the ones that have manifested suicidal signs. Suicide is never an option nor a way of getting out of pain. There is no crisis that one cannot come out of.

What is needed is appropriate counseling. But anyone having suicidal thoughts must first admit that they need help. Help isn’t so far away, Contact Miss Date Doctor on 03333 443 853 or send an email enquiries@relationshipsmdd.com. We are very professionals and handle cases like this.

A person who is self Destructive can also be referred to as an irrational person. Since a person with DBP lives more in a fantasy, it is difficult to convince such a person to believe facts other than the picture he has already created in his mind.

They make assumptions and make judgment about an issue refusing to understand the point from the other party. Once their mind is made up, there’s nothing else anyone could possibly do to change it. This makes it extremely hard to have a reasonable conversation with them.

What do we call a person who is self Destructive? A person who is self Destructive, may recognise within himself that the path he is towing is dangerous but, he refuses to allow himself to be helped. They ignore all consequences and may even believe that nobody can help them.

A person who is self Destructive can also be called Self centered; in that he is oblivious to the feelings of people around him. He cares less about his partner’s feelings and prioritizes himself over the feelings of others. The concern is usually more about how things affect him and not others.

  1. Next, identify the feeling that comes before you engage in a specific self Destructive behaviour. For example, when you feel shame and guilt, what’s the immediate go to self destructive Act for you? How does it come?

  1. Identify a reason why you indulge in each self Destructive behaviour. Think about the benefits it gives you and ponder on the kind of satisfaction you receive after committing the act. Ask yourself if the satisfaction is worth throwing your life away.

Empathy without boundaries is self destruction

Empathy without boundaries is self destruction

Empathy without boundaries is self Destruction. It is necessary to know how to balance empathy with paying attention to one’s mental care. If there are no boundaries, one will repeatedly be given to taking care of others and ignoring to take care of oneself. Taking care of others can be mentally exhausting and it is possible that the person’s mental state may rub off on you.

In a relationship where one party empathises more and places her needs below the partner’s wants, you find out that in the long run, it can leave her exhausted, feeling empty because her own needs are yet to be met.

The trick is empathizing yet being mindful of what you want. When you feel the need to be overly emphatic, remember to be assertive about what you want for yourself. Do not let a partner gaslight you into doing what you have no intentions to do. Show concern but yet, be firm about your choices.

Do not overly compromise because you are trying to be emphatic. Always indulging or saying yes to your significant other isn’t necessarily loyalty.  In the long run, you will eventually feel used even when that is not the other party’s desire.

Empathy without boundaries is self Destruction when you invest so much in taking care of others without taking care of yourself. It means you are putting other people’s needs above years. It is not selfish to take care of your own mental health. Everyone has their life goals, so why should you abandon yours in order to help another chase his?

Deeply caring about the well-being of others is great. There are days you need to say no, so that you can have your own life. If not, it will just be self sabotage if you’re not able to focus on achieving your set goals.

Sometimes, it is necessary to develop self love and a thick skin. Empathy is a wonderful trait that keeps the world sane and helps us widen our friendship circles.

When we fail to draw up a balance,  we may be emotionally burnt out. This isn’t only in our relationships with our significant other but includes our relationship with our children.

Self love is significant when trying to create a balance. Remember the need to spoil yourself, you too deserve good things. Set life goals and take steps to achieve them.

Reasons Why empathy without boundaries is self destruction.

  • When you start to lose your identity
  • Because of the time invested in other people’s lives, you begin to feel like a disappointment since your life has remained static.
  • When what you mostly do is compromise, you fail to identify your own potential
  • When a partner gaslights you into staying with them, you are incapable of moving on with your own life.
  • Empathy without boundaries leaves you with low self esteem.

The plot in you, happiness in Destruction. Happiness in self Destruction is an Album released by the American rock band, the plot in you.

Thirteen years old

Addicted to cigarettes

And both his parents were scared to

Death when he walked through the door

Baptized at twelve

Laughed it off and swore he pissed

In the water that had cleansed his soul

We’d been breaking into cars, taking steroids

And there he goes, down the alleyway

Shit’s not the same

I miss the days when violence and carelessness were no expense

The plot in you, happiness in Destruction

But shit’s not the same

Your heart may beat, but you’re not alive

And it makes me sick to see you all strung out

Desperate you take what you’ve been deprived

Happiness in self destruction

And it makes me sick to see you all strung out

Desperate you take what you’ve been deprived

Happiness in self destruction

And do you remember

The time when you took a hundred bucks

From your momma’s purse and we were so excited?

But you came and got your older brother to buy us some beer

And it was so clear

I fucking hate myself for letting you

Get hooked on all the shit that you were on

I promise you, next time I’ll be strong

I cherish you, I remember every time you bailed me out

And its safe to say I won’t be bailing now

Your heart may beat, but you’re not alive

And it makes me sick to see you all strung out

Desperate you take what you’ve been deprived

From the The plot in you, happiness in Destruction lyrics, you can deduce that the writer regrets partaking alongside his friend in the Self Destructive behaviours when they  were younger. Their actions may even be the reason why that friend passed on.

The thrill is usually only in the moment but the consequences of Self Destructive behaviours are grave and long lasting. The satisfaction from Self Destructive behaviours is merely temporary and does not diminish the problem at hand.

Self destructive behaviours signs

Self destructive behaviour signs

Self Destructive Behaviour signs:What are some of the self Destructive Behaviour signs:

  1. Depression:

Depression affects a person’s mindset and can affect his or her well-being. If one is faced with constant challenges, it may affect the mood and the mind. Where the mind is not at rest, the total well-being of a person is affected.

Depression increases the risk of a person sabotaging himself. It affects the mood and leaves a person unstable.

Being unable to snap out of depression is setting yourself up as a target for mental breakdown. Depression is usually the first sign of self Destructive behaviours. Most suicidal attempts emerge from depression.

Life trials can be overwhelming. It is okay to feel low spirited after a negative event but allowing it to linger longer than it should will produce fatal depression. You need to believe that conditions are never static and that things are bound to get better.

People suffering from depression tend to isolate themselves and push people away, refusing help. This can be dangerous, receiving support from loved ones is a major way to help one through depression or self destructive behaviours.

  1. Lack of self control

Another self Destructive Behaviour sign is lack of self control. If you find someone over spending or overshopping, it is possible that the person is overcompensating for an emotional vacuum. The impulse to spend more on things they don’t need is an indication that something is wrong.

Being impulsive with no self control especially on spending habits is dangerous. It could lead to debt or bankruptcy.

  1. Self neglect

Another self destructive sign is Self Neglect. A person who neglects taking care of his or her physical well-being exhibits signs of Self Destructive behaviours. Avoiding work or school simply because they don’t see the need to go out or they are not convinced that they are capable of taking up responsibilities.

  1. Victim mentality

People who exhibit this sign are usually afraid of taking responsibility. It is easier to stay blaming someone else than to try to solve a problem.

Playing the victim card gives them an opportunity to continue fueling their anger and justify the reason why they are involved in self destructive behaviours.

Sometimes having a victim mentality gives a person a reason to remain in a relationship that’s not working. They stay in a relationship because they are afraid of leaving and starting all over.

  1. Oversensitivity

Oversensitivity is a person who is easily hurt by jokes or comments may just be a sign of Self Destructive behaviour. They read meaning to every little thing and get agitated even when light comments are made.

These individuals develop hypersensitivity towards the opinion of others even when the opinions are not directed to offend.

Self Destructive Habits. An overview of some habits that are self destructives are;

  • A Self-Defeating Mindset

Many people who suffer from depression or anxiety actively believe they are no good whatsoever at anything they try to do. If they blow a job interview, it will take weeks for them to rebound and work up the guts to apply for another job. If they fail a test, they’ll simply give up and never learn the material they were supposed to.

Self-destructive people focus on when things go wrong in their lives, rather than realize that, up until the moment things went wrong, things were going just fine. Reversing that mindset is the first step toward leaving your self-destructive outlook on life behind.

  • Laziness

Self-destructive people tend to be lazy when it comes to taking action to better themselves. After bombing a job interview, they won’t look back at what they did wrong and try to improve for the next time; they simply blow it off and say “It’ll never happen for me.” Of course it won’t if you don’t learn from past mistakes.

  • Forced Incompetence

The most common example I can think of to illustrate forced incompetence is when a student (or adult, for that matter) says “I’m just not a math person.” While some people do have a natural gift for certain skills, these gifts mean nothing if they’re not practiced.

Just because you’re “not a math person,” or “not very musical” doesn’t mean you’ll never be able to learn those skills.

Sure, it might be more difficult for you than it is for others, but that’s all the more reason to be proud of yourself for working hard and achieving something. If every player in the NBA quit just because they’re not as good as Michael Jordan, there wouldn’t be enough players in the league to field a single team.

  • Self-Pity

Feeling bad for yourself gets you nowhere. Everyone has shortcomings and weaknesses. Having the attitude that you were put on this planet to be miserable is a self-fulfilling prophecy. What good is wallowing in your own sorrow?

After your pity party is over, you’ll still be just as miserable, and you will have wasted precious time you could have used to better yourself in some way. Stop feeling bad for yourself and work on the negative qualities in your life that are dragging you down.

  • Taking It out on Others

Self Destructive Habits. Self-destructive people are also usually rude and abrasive to other individuals as well. While it certainly isn’t productive to be nasty to your own self, there is absolutely no reason you should take your misery out on others. In fact, being kind to others may be the catalyst that brightens up your day and puts you on the path to being kind to yourself as well

  • Running From Emotions

Whether through alcohol and drug abuse or not, self-destructive people hide from their emotions. They might put on a happy face and make others believe that “everything is okay,” but bottling up emotions only leads to an explosion at some point in the future.

Self-destructive people not only run from negative emotions, but positive ones as well. Sometimes, they might even be scared to find that they actually do feel happy, and start looking for things to go all wrong. If you’re always looking for the negatives in life, you’re sure to find them.

  • Refusing Help

Along with isolating themselves from loved ones, self-destructive people fail to acknowledge they need help. They wouldn’t be caught dead in a therapist’s office, no matter how much they know deep down that they need it.

This is due in part to the stigma attached to visiting a therapist, but this pressure can be alleviated after taking the first step and making that initial appointment.

They might be pleasantly surprised at how much better they feel after spending just one hour speaking to a professional who can help put them on the right track.

There are other subtle self destructive habits that are not mentioned here. The common characteristics they share is that their impacts are Negative.

Self hatred and self destruction

Self hatred and self destruction

Self hatred and self destruction. There’s a correlation between these two. Both work side by side. While self hatred is the starting point, Self Destruction is the end product of self hatred. It is hatred for oneself that causes a person to indulge in Self Destruction Behaviour.

What is self hatred?

Another word for self hatred is self loathing. This is the act of criticizing oneself. It is the continuous process of judging oneself either due to low esteem or guilt.

Incessant negative beliefs about oneself can lead to self hatred. This can lead people to indulge in substances and even committ suicide. Self loathing is not

Self hatred might be triggered by comparison with others. When you feel others possess better qualities than you do. Or others look better than you do.

Self hatred and self destruction. Self hatred may also arise if a person is being heavily criticized by others whom he holds in high esteem. For example, criticisms from parents can cause a child to develop low esteem believing that he may never be good enough.

The ideology of perfectionism is another trigger for self hate. When a perfectionist does not do well in an area of his life, it hits his self esteem and he begins to doubt his capabilities.

People with BPD self Destruction tend to overlook their strengths when comparing themselves with others. Women compare their bodies with other women. They beat themselves up for not being curvy or being too thick.

If your body mass negatively affects your self esteem, then do something positive to change how you look. But I will recommend you accept yourself just the way you are.

Best practices for self hate

  • Building up your self esteem is a strong catalyst for breaking out of self loathing.

  • Remind yourself that everyone has their various strengths as well as weaknesses.

  • Seek therapeutic support

Relationship between self hatred and self destruction

A person who hates his body might think that he needs to practice some self Destructive behaviours in order to punish his body. Either by engaging in eating disorders or causing bodily harm.

Self hate is a driving force for self Destruction. Self Destruction is punishment given by a person to himself because he hates himself. A person may decide to engage in irrational sexual activities due to low esteem.

Self loathing leads to depression. Depression as earlier discussed is a sign of Self Destructive Behaviour. The only coping mechanisms that a person may adopt to help with self hating may be negative habits like intake of drug substances, excessive intake of alcohol and others.

A person who hates himself will seek comfort. Oftentimes, the type of comfort he chooses is Self Destructive behaviours.
