The Relationship Counselling Centre

The Relationship Counselling Centre

The Relationship Counselling Centre

The relationship counselling centre. You’re probably feeling so alone and hopeless right now. The relationship you once looked to for strength and joy is beginning to feel like a source of pain and disconnection.

You feel like you have tried everything that you know to make your relationship better. You’ve tried talking about your issues but somehow always end up spiraling into a fight- leaving you feeling so frustrated, disconnected, and more hurt each time. You worry about where your relationship is headed if something doesn’t change.

Maybe you never imagined you would be looking for a couples therapist. Perhaps couples therapy has always felt like a last resort. I want you to know you are in the right place. You can transform your disconnection and negative communication patterns into connection and intimacy- even if that feels impossible right now.

The relationship counselling centre. By saying yes to therapy and committing yourself to the process, you can pivot from this place of distress to a place of connection and security. Can you imagine coming home to your partner and having them feel like your haven from the stressors of the world?

Can you imagine feeling seen, valued, and loved by your partner? That would mean everything to you.

The goal of the relationship counselling centre is to help you and your partner improve your communication skills and gain self-confidence and awareness to help you both to grow and heal as a couple.

Miss Date Doctor provides an empathetic and safe space where as a couple you can explore sources of relationship conflict and learn to listen to each other with understanding. You can realise how emotions taint the way you each feel and behave in different situations and learn how to effectively respond to each other’s spoken or unspoken needs.

When you and your partner come together to address the root cause of disconnection in your relationship at the relationship counselling centre, rather than concentrate on surface issues, you can heal and find meaningful and lasting change.

The relationship counselling centre. The family is a crucial social support system. Separation, divorce, conflict, or loss can have damaging consequences on the family unit. Parents and children can find custody matters quite stressful.

If your family has child custody disputes, communication problems, conflict, anxiety, depression, or loss of a family member or close others it is time to seek help. Family counselling will help to keep children and parents engaged in rebuilding connections and communication.

Counselling will help families to heal within themselves and find security and safety within the family unit.

You will probably have questions at MDD, the relationship counselling centre and we are here to answer every one of them

What if I cancel or miss an appointment at the relationship counselling centre?

We charge for missed appointments and appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. Please note: if you do not attend your assessment appointment, and have not let us know in advance, you will be charged.

How do I start?

Your first meeting with us will always take the form of an assessment. The brief questionnaire you fill out for your assessment counsellor and the information you give them during the session will be used to match you to the most appropriately trained counsellor to help you with your concerns.

Just as importantly, this assessment session allows you to decide whether you would like to continue into counselling. And this initial consultation is free!

How long do sessions last?

The relationship counselling centre sessions last for 60 minutes, and you will always see the same counsellor unless you choose to see someone different. There is no typical counselling session. Your counsellor will be highly trained in listening and reflecting and will help you to explore your issues and find a way forward.

The relationship counselling centre. We offer an integrative style of working tailored always to meet your specific needs which may include elements of several ways of working, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gottman method therapy, Emotion focussed therapy, and Imago therapy.

How often do I attend sessions?

It’s best to keep the momentum going so meeting once weekly at the same time and day will help you and your counsellor make progress. It helps if you have your diary to hand at the beginning to allow you and your counsellor to arrange a series of sessions. At this stage, you can factor in things like holidays.

How many sessions will I have?

From the very beginning of your time with your counsellor at the relationship counselling centre, we ask you to think about what you would like to achieve before leaving us and to talk about how long you may need to attend.

The relationship counselling centre. Endings are a very important part of your counselling and can offer a real sense of achievement, insight, and clarity. We do ask you not to just disappear! Where financial considerations could limit the number of sessions you can attend, please let the counsellor know at the beginning and the work will be tailored to what is achievable in the time.

Can a friend or relative come into the sessions with me?

Counselling sessions are confidential and we only allow people booked for the appointment to be present during the sessions. This means in practice, if you are attending counselling as an individual then only you and your counsellor will be in the session at the relationship counselling centre.

In couples/family / young people counselling, only those family members who are coming for counselling can be present.

After you arrive (for face-to-face appointments) at the relationship counselling centre, your counsellor will greet you in the reception area and take you to your counselling room. Carers can help settle clients in the room where appropriate but must leave before counselling starts.

The relationship counselling centre. Clients having video or phone counselling must be in a quiet, confidential space where nobody can overhear what is being said, and where they are free from other commitments to focus on themselves.

What Is The Best Therapy For Relationship Problems?

What Is The Best Therapy For Relationship Problems 1

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? Relationship therapy is a therapy designed for couples to help them navigate and resolve problems as a team. Relationship therapy can help you and your partner maintain your romantic connection by solving interpersonal conflicts big and small.

While some couples may see a relationship therapist in a preventative nature, to keep their relationship on track, most couples see a relationship therapist when things have gone awry.

Relationship therapists can help couples navigate difficult relationship situations like communication problems, conflict management problems, problems related to finances, and infidelity to name a few.

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? Relationship therapy is becoming more and more common these days as couples realize that they really can’t handle their relationship problems all by themselves. Realizing this is an important first step, and it’s important to know that it doesn’t mean that you are admitting defeat in any way!

It can be very difficult to navigate the peaks and valleys of a relationship, in addition to problems that are unique to romantic relationships. Turning to a couples therapist that has the training to help you navigate these things is often the best thing you can do to improve or even save your relationship.

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? Relationship therapy is about providing you and your partner with the skills to navigate current and future problems in effective and kind ways so that your relationship stays strong and lasts the test of time.

If you and your partner are serious about addressing your problems, it’s important to have candid conversations about where the problems are originating, and whether both you and your partner are equally contributing to the problems.

This might seem kind of abstract, so here’s an example: let’s say that your partner has unresolved anger issues, which are causing conflicts in your relationship to escalate rather than get resolved.

If this is the case, it would not be helpful for you to go to couples therapy to learn about conflict management, because your partner will still have anger management problems that will escalate the situation.

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? Couples therapy could be a good next step, but first and foremost your partner needs to learn how to address their anger. Identifying the root of your relationship problems will help you identify the best route of therapy to pursue to create a healthier and happier relationship.

Individual therapy can always work in tangent with relationship therapy, but note that the two are not interchangeable.

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? Multiple types of therapy can be useful for addressing relationship problems. The best option for you will be determined by the issues you’re facing in your relationship, and your and your partner’s preferences. Three common types of therapy couples can consider are

  1. Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Developed by husband and wife psychologists John and Julie Gottman, the Gottman Method is based on 40 years of scientific research focused on behavioural patterns in successful and unsuccessful relationships.

  1. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT): CBT was first developed as a form of individual therapy to help address difficulties such as anxiety and depression. It is based on the idea that because your thoughts impact your behaviour, reframing how you think of situations can help you to better cope with them. CBT for couples applies this concept to issues affecting relationships.

Relationship therapists may also use cognitive behavioural therapy in relationship counselling. This type of therapy has been well-researched and is an effective method.

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? In cognitive-behavioural therapy, couples can learn how their thoughts affect their emotions and behaviours within the relationship.

This can help them to develop a greater understanding of how their thoughts influence day-to-day life within the partnership and how they might change their thoughts to be more helpful.

Beyond different counselling styles, there are different methods of receiving relationship therapy. For example, it is possible to participate in online relationship counselling instead of going to an office for in-person counselling.

With online counselling, you have the option to receive therapy from the comfort of your own home via a webcam. You may also communicate with your therapist via online chat or email.

What is the best therapy for relationship problems? While there are multiple different types of relationship counselling, the best strategy for each couple will depend upon their unique needs and situation. What works for one couple may not work for another.

Some people may prefer in-person methods, whereas others will do just fine with online counselling. A relationship therapist can help you to determine the best type of counselling for your situation.

  1. Discernment counselling: Created in 2008 for couples struggling to resolve a disagreement, discernment counselling can be especially useful for those struggling to see eye-to-eye on a decision they are making together.

Couples who disagree about parenting or financial decisions, or even whether to continue pursuing their relationship, may find discernment counselling helpful.

How Do You Rebuild Trust In A Relationship?

How Do You Rebuild Trust In A Relationship 1

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? In relationships, trust is the faith you have in your partner that they will remain loyal to you. You can depend on them, and they make you feel safe and comfortable in any situation.

Therefore, trust is one of the most important things to have in a relationship. If you do not have trust, you don’t have anything.

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? Many times, when we think of trust being broken, we auto-check in and think of cheating on our partner. However, trust can be broken in many ways: not picking up the kids on time from school, spending more money than you stated you would, not keeping your word about paying the bills on time, and more.

It isn’t always the “big” things that can break trust, but it can be an accumulation of small things that build up over time.

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? The interesting thing about trust is that it goes both ways. To be fully trusting of your partner, you have to be trustworthy. It is completely unfair for you to be doing all the dirt—lying, cheating, and sneaking—and then expect your partner to trust you fully. Trust is reciprocal. Trust cannot be demanded.

One of the biggest questions we often get from couples is, “Can my relationship work if my partner has broken my trust?”

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? The bottom line is, building trust is a two-way process. Both partners must be willing and ready to put in the work after there has been a major breach of trust in the relationship. If one partner is not ready to change and do better, the likelihood of the relationship surviving is minimal.

If you are willing to make the necessary changes, then let’s discuss how to do that from both perspectives.

For the offender:

  1. Realize you made a mistake and own it. Do not make excuses for your actions. Be honest with yourself and your partner about the breach in your relationship.

  1. Secure your partner’s insecurities. Let’s face it. You messed up. In the area you messed up in, you are going to have to over-communicate and be extra cautious to show your partner you are making progress.

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? For example, if you were cheating while your partner thought you were at the gym after work, your partner may have their fears triggered when you make personal plans for the weeks and months to come.

On your way home daily, you may have to call your partner and update them on your whereabouts to help them feel more secure. If you are going to be late coming home, you need to communicate that in advance and check in. In this situation, it is not keeping tabs on a person—it’s being respectful.

  1. Know your partner’s apology language. Like with love languages, each person has a specific way they like receiving apologies. Knowing your partner’s apology language can help you understand how to best convey an apology to your partner and can truly help in conflict resolution while rebuilding trust.

  1. Accept that this may be a long road. Rebuilding trust may be one of the hardest (and most time-consuming) things you will ever do in your relationship. It will not happen overnight. Remember to stick in there and continue to work towards your goal of rebuilding your partner’s trust even when you don’t feel like it.

For the person who got hurt:

  1. Analyze your feelings of hurt. As the person who was betrayed, you need to understand your feelings. Do not deny or dismiss your hurt. So, be introspective on things such as, “How deeply am I hurt?” “Have I been holding on to this hurt for too long? “What do I want from this relationship moving forward?”

  1. Forgive, but don’t forget. If you plan on staying in this relationship and making it work, you must forgive. Yes, your partner hurt you, and right now you probably don’t see how you will ever get over it.

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? But if you are choosing to stay, you need to let go of the offense and work towards reconciliation. It won’t be easy overnight, but if you ever want a healthy relationship, it is necessary.

  1. Know that you don’t have to know all the details. Contrary to popular belief, knowing all the details of why your partner betrayed you does not help in the healing process.

How do you rebuild trust in a relationship? You do not need to know every detail about the person your partner cheated with or every detail about why they chose to lie. Believe me, even if they told you the truth, it would never be sufficient—so don’t worry about giving yourself additional stress.

  1. Don’t blame yourself. It is not always about you, so cut yourself some slack. You did not force or drive your partner to do anything. They are in control of their actions. Nine times out of 10, the offence had more to do with your partner than you. Unresolved trauma, attachment styles, upbringing, character flaws, and so on are things to consider.

Can You See A Relationship Counsellor On Your Own?

Can You See A Relationship Counsellor On Your Own 1

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? As  Counsellors frequently involved in family and marriage counselling, this is a question we are frequently asked. My answer is always a confident “Yes.” One person can make huge differences in a relationship, but it does take work.

It is frequently the case that relationships are not as rewarding as those involved would like. Many relationships often feel like a lot of hard work with no silver lining.

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? At this point, people begin to question whether the relationship is working, whether it has a future, or if they’re just remaining together out of fear of leaving. This is when most counsellors meet their clients – when things have reached a critical level.

Often long before this point, one-half of the couple will have suggested, threatened, begged or nagged that they should go for counselling together. And, for a variety of reasons, the partner will have refused. Even at the point of an imminent breakup, some people may refuse to consider a couple’s counselling.

So, when a person wonders whether coming alone for counselling can help their relationship, I ask them, “Are you willing to make changes and work towards improving the relationship?” If the answer is yes, then there is a strong probability that things will get better just through one partner attending counselling.

If the answer is, “No, my partner needs to change or this relationship will not succeed,” then things are more difficult. At this point, I will work with a client to help them understand that their partner is not living in a vacuum where they act independently of everything around them. Most of their behaviours are partially influenced by the behaviours of the client.

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? Most couples acknowledge that they tend to be locked into patterns of behaviour, like a ritual or a dance. If you say something that you’ve often said before to your mate, you can usually predict what they will say in return, and so on. In many cases, the issues and conflicts that plague relationships are like this.

Couples tend to act as though they are working from a script, where each knows what the other will say and do before it is even done or said. However, the same negative patterns are re-enacted day after day, as though we are afraid to deviate from the familiar.

So, each thinks to themselves, if only the other would change, things would all be better. And, of course, things remain the same as each stubbornly waits for the other to see the light and change.

So why don’t the participants in unhappy relationships consider modifying their behaviour? They do.

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? If, for instance, nagging one’s partner to stop leaving such a mess in the bathroom each morning does not produce the desired results, we change our behaviour by nagging more loudly and more frequently.

We are creatures of habit, and change is difficult. If our behaviours are not getting the desired results, we usually change by doing more of that same behaviour. Of course, we only get more of the same result.

What then keeps intelligent people from trying different behaviours? The reason is usually that we believe we are right and, therefore, we would be giving in or compromising our principles if we changed instead of demanding that our partner change.

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? This is one of the biggest traps in relationships – holding onto the idea that because we are right we cannot give in and change to accommodate our partner.

However, when asked to consider what the advantage of being right is, and how it has helped the relationship, most people admit that it has only led to a huge amount of anger, resentment, arguing, and feeling bad about oneself.

The fact is that being right is the ultimate booby prize. One may feel empowered or morally superior, but as your relationship crumbles around you, this is of little consolation.

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? With this realization, many people agree that they can give up the idea that they will not change because they are right. They may hold on tightly to the idea that they are right, but agree to behave differently because they are committed to saving the relationship.

Can you see a relationship counsellor on your own? All it takes for a relationship to begin changing is for one person to find the strength to begin the process with themselves, instead of waiting for the other to give in.

From this point on, much of the counselling work is exciting. Clients begin to realize that once they change their actions, their partners can change too. A shift in one person has the effect of creating space or creating options so that the other person can consider how they too might act differently.

Acting differently also allows us to see ourselves in new ways, and allows our partner to see us anew too. Often, catching glimpses of the loving, thoughtful, strong or affectionate side of oneself that had long been obscured by other less positive behaviours can have a huge impact on an individual and their partner.

A couple may begin to remember what existed before and think ahead to what may be possible in the future.

The changes that need to be made in each relationship are different, but they are carefully chosen to create a positive difference in how the client sees themself, and in their effect on the partner. The steps may be very small at first, and improvement may feel slow.

However, when a relationship appears to be falling apart, and a couple is not happy with themselves or with each other any longer, even a small change can appear miraculous.
