It may also arise based on a person’s view of the world or beliefs about the meaning of life

Mindset is a person’s way of thinking and opinions about life. It is a set of beliefs that change and shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. Mindsets are formed from childhood through the experiences people had as children. The manner in which a child is raised goes a long way to affect how he will see life as an adult.

Mindset is a collection of thoughts and beliefs that shape your thinking habits and your perception of life. According to Dweck, there are two types of mindsets which shape our lives and they are formed or influenced by the upbringing people had as children.

The two types of mindsets according to Dweck are Growth and Fixed mindsets and we will look at them in this part of the article. He believed that mindsets are formed from childhood in two ways, which are Labeling and Praise with the former making children have fixed mindsets and the latter making them have growth mindsets, which are the two types of mindsets.

Fixed Mindset

People who have a fixed mindset prefer to focus on the familiar because of their belief that their abilities cannot be changed. They believe that abilities and traits are fixed, can’t change and that talent and intelligence alone can lead to being successful.

This mindset is formed by labelling a child to be a certain way either because of their failure or success in certain areas of their life. Labelling a child makes them have a fixed mindset that that is how they are and they cannot change it.

Growth Mindset

People with this mindset are more open and ready to take on challenges because they believe that talent and abilities can be developed over time through persistence and effort and that everyone can get smarter and more talented if they work at it.

This mindset is formed by praising a child and involves acknowledging the process it took and the effort put in by the child to get to that accomplishment; which is subject to change, rather than just praising the result of the process and this makes the child know that they can be anything they choose if they put in the effort.
